Faith vs Fear...and Sherpas

I can’t remember who said it and how it was said, but I heard someone say something like, "Faith is imagination directed. Fear is imagination undirected."

A bit simplistic, I know. I wanted to see the source of this thought so Google helped me become aware of a poem called Superstition, written by Elizabeth Scaife in 1846, with this quote in it:

"It is thought, wild thought,
Thought undirected, that gives night its fears
And shapes unreal -- Thought, and Superstition,
Planted by ignorance, by folly nursed,
Until the shoot becomes a spreading tree,
Beneath whose shelter every poisonous weed
Lurks undiscovered."

There's more to it, but I thought it was an interesting perspective considering some youth soccer conversations I have had recently.

Thoughts undirected. Those thoughts cast shadows over weeds that don't help our lives. The encouragement from the poet was to step out of that shade and away from that tree.

It's tough, I know.

That is why we bring an age-appropriate curriculum to the table. We desire to give you all directed thoughts, as opposed to the undirected ones. Our desire is that you all are able to grasp onto this direction with your athlete with a little more faith than you had before you started your youth soccer journey! Maybe even a lot more.

As I thought more about this, I wanted to share some random thoughts. And perhaps this will be encouraging to you with your athlete in soccer, but perhaps it even goes past that. Not sure?

Happiness comes from Progress.

Progress is revealed from passing Benchmarks.

Benchmarks create a Roadmap.

A Roadmap allow for a Vision.

A Vision for your journey delivers Faith to your Being.

And Faith cancels out Fear.

So, if you need a shot of Faith for your athlete’s soccer journey, grab coffee with one of your coaches! Gain some clarity. Have an inventory of our age-appropriate curriculum and match up your current journey with what Benchmarks could be there.

If you have plenty of Faith for your athlete’s soccer experience, great! But you may want to get more comfortable with the Benchmarks or the Progress or discovering more Happiness in this youth soccer thing. Perhaps you want to realign your Vision to a higher standard for your athlete. That's a good reason to chat with us and we’ll get you headed in the right direction for your soccer athlete.

We are available. We want all youth soccer players to be happy. We want them to experience progress that point them towards the appropriate benchmarks that are roadmapped out for this vision we call the youth soccer journey.

And we appreciate your Faith in us at Champion’s Guide as your sherpas on the journey!
