Sports Fuel
If you haven't watched the ESPN series called "Enhanced," you may want to put that on your watch list. As a coach looking for an edge for my players, I was excited about the content of the series.
One of the six documentaries in particular is called Endurance. Part of the episode they track Marathon Runners and practices they go through. More specifically, they track the nutrition they pursue to break the 2 hour mark for a marathon. 2 HOURS!! One of the runners they were following (sponsored by Nike) has just recently got down to around 2 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds. Anyway...SUPER FAST!
One innovative nutrition piece these marathon runners use is a Sports Fuel called Maurten. It is a hydrogel. It is very interesting technology. Way past the concept of Gatorade or Powerade. I contacted the company and asked about our age group and sport. This is what they responded with:
"The use of Drink Mix 160 (40g of carbohydrates) or Drink Mix 320 (80g of carbohydrates) depends on several factors. Position of the team is one factor. The level of preparation (carbohydrates) is another. The weather conditions are a third factor. However, for a youth soccer player I can confidently recommend the Drink Mix 160 in most conditions. An easy and simple strategy would be to ingest half during the warm before the game, and the other half in half-time."
Just thought I would put it on your radar. Obviously you would want to check with your doctor and/or pediatrician for child consumption.
But for those of you running the Music City Marathon in April of 2019, you may want to check into this product! And last comment...this is not a Keto-Diet friendly product!
